Ecoconomist is a non-governmental organization based in Guatemala that works to strengthen economic and environmental resilience in vulnerable rural communities. The organization finances and implements sustainable, locally adapted solutions — including solar energy systems, household water filters, and aquaponic fish tanks — that address fundamental challenges related to energy access, clean water, and food security. These technologies are introduced as practical tools to reduce recurring costs, improve household stability, and support dignified, long-term livelihoods.
Ecoconomist places strong emphasis on working alongside communities. The organization prioritizes close engagement and convivencia with families to ensure that systems are correctly installed, properly understood, and effectively maintained over time. Through hands-on guidance and follow-up, Ecoconomist supports households in learning how to operate and manage their solar systems and aquaponic tanks independently, until they are fully self-sufficient. This approach reflects Ecoconomist’s core belief that sustainability is not only about technology, but about shared learning, trust, and the long-term capacity of communities to thrive on their own terms.
