Short Story
This 8-watt solar panel system, will be installed by the NGO FundaMaya, in the houses of the most vulnerable families located around the shores of Lake Atitlán. Many of these families are currently living out of the grid, but still having to spend over 30 quetzales on candles every month. Money which could be much better spent on feeding their young, many of which are currently undernourished.
Ecoconomist offers you the chance to help FundaMaya distribute these kits to the communities they work in. Each kit consists of an 8 watt solar panel, which is linked to four 2-Watt light bulbs, and a USB power outlet, allowing families to light up four sections of their house, by night, using only the energy collected by the solar panel during the day, from the sun. It also comes with included with a USB charging station, which allows families to charge their phones totally free of cost.
