Irene is mother to Ingrid Maribel, who is the 372nd student sponsored by FundaMaya in their educational program in Panajachel. Nevertheless, Ingrid’s family is not connected to the town’s power grid, and therefore have no electricity. Currently, they are using five small solar panel flashlights to light up their home, which is not nearly enough for a family home consisting of 8 people.
